Wednesday, February 16th, 2011Fedora, Debian and the ever famous Ubuntu are just a few variants of the open source operating system Linux, one of the operating systems in which I have interests with since I am one of those operating system fanatics though I also like doing my experiments with Mac and Windows once in a while. Aside from my favorite business process software, however, there is one operating system which I would really like to try; these specific operating system is mainly run on mainframes, supercomputers, dedicated servers with IP translation functions and other machines that require high speed and heavy computations, this was also one of the ancestors of the operating systems and it was used during the World war in military operations; yes, this one is called Unix. However, a brilliant student in the name of Linus Torvalds was not very happy with his desktop operating system but admired Unix very much, he wrote his own code and got some libraries making an operating system that is close to Unix but can be run on the desktop, thus the birth of Linux. This operating system was made mainly for experiments, research and development for those who are also big fanatics of the operating systems, it also has different sorts of variants or flavors depending on the distributor; it is also open source thus one can manipulate it whenever and how they want it to be. Even the Mac, the operating system made by Apple, has developed a quite more or less similar version of a Unix based operating system, in which one could run a number of things in the mac terminal server but however though, one cannot manipulate or change the kernel of the system mainly due to it being not open source. As someone who has tasted these flavors, I suggest that if you want more of the functionality and a user friendly operating system, one should go to either Mac or Windows but if you are feeling a little adventurous and rebellious yourself, Linux is the best operating system to fulfill your operating system aspirations.

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011I work night shifts at our community hospital, but every couple of days or so I take time out to do some laps at the pool over at the high school gym for some exercise; that day, my mom beckoned me over right before I stepped out of the house. My mother usually sent me on errands when she knew I would be getting out of the house, and on the list of her things for me to do was to look up air conditioner prices at two different stores downtown, something that I had expected ever since she reported that the unit in her room was making weirder noises than usual and it refused to cool her stifling room like it used to. The errands she has me run for her may be oftentimes tedious, but I never have cause to complain for only recently has she had to rely on me for these things; even though her lists of things for me to do seem random and questionable at times, I am just happy that she has allowed me to do things for her as she never did when we were younger and she did all the work in taking care of us as we grew up. Up until last year, when she broke her leg after sliding off the icy driveway and had to be on a cast for close to two months after breaking a leg, mom has always been active and all over the place, doing everything that needed to be done; it had been hard for her to sit back and let other people take care of her, but had only started to slowly walk on her own again around the house just recently.

Determining what to wear, when and where to use clothes is the personal decision of a person. A man can wear jeans in working but he cannot use it in formal occasions.

Thursday, February 10th, 2011I am growing old and I am starting to consider things that I only watch in the television when I was a kid. Stuff such as insurance, housing plan, health care plan and all those insurance that offer security when you get older. Just last year I finished paying for my Life Insurance Plan. I was paying every quarter of the year, for five years straight. It was not much of a hassle, because I just do money transfer online. No lining up in a bank or insurance office to pay. Now that I am done with it, I feel so much better knowing that I have something kept away in case something happens to me. Lately I have been thinking into getting a house. Low cost housing that are subsidized by the government, nothing fancy. I saw a few, but mostly they are located outside of the city, which will be impractical for me because my work is located in the heart of the city I live in. Some of the subdivisions that I saw were very cozy and pretty. Not too big, but big enough for a single person like me. I also computed the monthly mortgage, and I was happy to find out that it is within my budget. And I do not have to worry about cost segregation because if I do decide to get a house, it will be the first asset that is under my name. I do not own a car, or a lot. I still live with my parents together with my sister. And even then the house and lot we live in, are just rented. I hope to find a low cost housing that is closer to the city and still within my budget.

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011In the mountains, my grandparents bought a big lot which was to be divided among their big family and which was to be used for growing fruit bearing plants or raise different kinds of livestock such as chickens, goats, cows, and many other animals that would live well and reproduce in the mountains and which can then be a source of extra income for the family. The care takers would look after the lot. The problem with having care takers to look after the lot was that they did not have control on what the care takers did with the plants and animals and they did not have control on what was happening in the mountains since they only visited the place every Saturdays of the week or even once a month only. Another problem we had were the trespassers that frequented the lot and usually stole some of the animals and some of the fruits that were in the lot and this is one big headache for us since it meant losses to the income we were earning every month from the lot. We set up a wire mesh fence around the lot.

Excited on escaping the sad reality of being an employee while at the same time a little bit fearful of the risk I am taking, there is only one thing that I am sure of, I will be using my sole money as capital for my business and I will focus on it in the best way that I can so as not to lose my own saved money. To start building my own distribution center, I am invited by the main business center of our products for a seminar and orientation about selling the products and all marketing schemes that I need to follow in order for me to get all the expected benefits of being a distribution center in a particular place this coming month of February in fontainebleau miami, one of the very exquisite hotels in the place. The great grand ballroom function room in Fontainebleau Miami can accommodate up to five thousand people with side bleachers and platform complete with all amenities that is why I heard that the place is perfect for all occasions plus they also have a number of function rooms perfect for different kinds of meetings like the one we are going to attend this coming February. Because all I hear from my friends are good reports, I look forward to coming to fontainebleau Miami and I am so excited to enjoy the place myself especially that due to my hectic and busy schedule, vacation is what I really need the most.
