The Dreamer of the Danger
Tuesday, May 31st, 2011My youngest sister was assigned to be the representative of their class for this months Miss United Nations school pageant with the theme of Women Empowerment. Obviously my sister was thrilled due to the fact that she loves dressing up, but the first thing that came up to my mind was the fact that dressing up, make up, hair and all those things that compose a pageant would inevitably cost money, which currently is a little difficult to produce much of. Due to my mom’s and my creative genius as well as thrifty ways thankfully we have found ways to create a gown from things that we have in store and update some dresses that we already have, so we realized that this pageant business would not be so costly after all. Anyhow, my mom and I decided that for some parts of the gown we would need some beads and accessories that we currently do not have but we are sure can be easily, and cheaply, found in the downtown area. So we went there one afternoon, me being the directionally impaired person that I am, got so confused by all the buying and selling going around with things like ceramic bird stands or teak furniture that I was feeling a little dizzy after a while. We were finally able to buy the little beady things, with a little haggling and a lot of sweaty walking, that we were looking for and a few weeks from the pageant, we were finally able to start making the gown. Since I have not been able to practice my sewing skills, it took a while for me to get used to the machine once again and I was able to finish the ruffles after an hour of cutting and sewing, hopefully, with my mom and my own perseverance, we could finish the gown in time for the pageant.

Monday, May 30th, 2011From silk pajamas, flannel nightgowns, to lacy negligees, boxer shorts, and sometimes in the buff, everyone has difference preferences in what they like to sleep in; mine is wearing oversized shorts and my cousin’s is a football jersey that she received from her boyfriend. Pajamas are a must especially in an air-conditioned room and to be safe, I have my favorite hello kitty blanket to keep me warm when I can no longer stand the cold. There are times though when I fall asleep beside my laptop, which is quite often, during which my eyes feel extremely tired after reading so much that I sometimes fail to finish what I am working on. However, I find that listening to loud rock music helps me in staying up and focused; and there was a time when I fell asleep, woke up and finished an article at dawn, and this was when I realized I could write early in the morning but in the process totally mess up my sleeping pattern. In a way, I am still trying to see what schedule fits me when it comes to doing my online writing, which involves writing an original article and then writing three revisions; the revisions entail that each be revised sentence per sentence. Revising the original articles takes a lot more time and creativity so I find revisions somewhat a hassle as you have to revise sentence per sentence; not only that, there is also the minimum number of words to keep in mind, which must be at least two hundred fifty words. Sometimes, I get this feeling that my online writing is not like a sideline at all because of the pressures, however, I will take on this challenge because I want to earn money that I can put into my savings account.

These stories of witchcraft are not just in the Philippines but are also very present in other countries and the book by JK Rowling, the Harry Potter series, is the confirmation that these mystical stories are the foundation of literature. Since the Harry Potter series has become a world phenomenon, it made its way to Hollywood and not only the English people love the Harry Potter series but it is also well accepted by other kids all over the world. In order to live the legacy of telling great stories about our past to our children, we must not forget what our ancestors have taught us and in this way, it will continue to live on from one generation to the next generation.
